National Geographic Recieves Ellie

National Geographic Recieves Ellie

National Geographic was awarded an Ellie Award this year by a very beautiful Brooke Shields.

The magazine recieved the the award for photojournalism for their piece that was known as "Shattered Somalia". The piece focused on the results of war in the country of Somalia, especially on children and other innocent citizens.

Though the writing was superb as is customary for National Geographic, the monolithic images of war-torn Northern Somlia are what really made this piece of writing stand out. The powerful images really help to hammer home what sort of chaos and suffering the people of Somalia go through each and every day.

The antagonist of this non-fiction piece is an 18-year-old boy named Mohammad who is a life long resident of the area. Seeing the tragedy through his eyes is a grave reminder of how fast some kids have to grow up.

National Geographic has a way of getting their message home through absolutely amazing photojournalism, this is what has helped this print magazine to stand the test of time.
